  • How should the advancement of large language models affect the practice of science? A higher-order whitepaper on the influence of LLMs within scientific discourse. A few perspectives are offered from pessimists and optimists alike. I particularly agreed with Bender et al.
  • lossless-cut, a FOSS tool for high-fidelity video/audio editing. My new video editor of choice. Hard to beat free and open source! Pre-built binaries are available for download as well.
  • 5calls.org | Make your voice heard. An easy and effective way to make a political impact. Studies show calling is the most effective way to voice political opinions as they are the hardest to discount. Mail can be thrown away, texts can go unread, but phone calls make it through!
  • Deep Impact, some in-depth analysis by Ed Zitron around the recent Deepseek model that’s been making waves across the AI industry. In particular, the myth around LLMs always requiring more processing power was upended by recent, free-for-use models published by Deepseek that can be run on local hardware.
  • A Guide to Washington’s Backpacking Permit System. An excellent resource for some backpacking trips I’m planning this summer. The cheatsheet makes it easy to know when to apply for each — which is soon!
  • Declassified CIA Guide to Sabotaging Fascism Is Suddenly Viral. An unsurprising response to recent events in the United States. The recent plutocratic takeover of many of the government organs is a troubling sign for times ahead. Here’s a direct link to the guide.
  • “Nobody could have known”: inclusive behaviors to counter short-termism, an essay on balancing short-term delivery with long-term sustainability, especially within the corporate world.
  • The Logic of Destruction and how to resist it, an essay exposing the work by the new US administration to hollow out the federal government and sell it for parts. People should avoid cooperating with these changes if they’re directly involved, or contact your representative so they are aware of your feelings.
